Refresh and Reboot Your Interiors For The New Year

The New Year offers a fresh start for so many things, from exercise and healthy eating to aspirations and career development, so why not take a moment or two to refresh your home? After all, a tidy home makes for a tidy mind.

We’re here to guide you in how to cleanse, revive and reboot your home interiors, so read on to find out more about our top interior design tips to freshen up your home this January.

Whilst creating an open plan living space can feel daunting, it is an exciting opportunity to make the space ‘work’ for you and the needs of every family member. Through carefully considered zoning and harmonious interiors, one can enjoy the perfect combination of elegant cohesion, comfort and multifunctional practicality.

Declutter

Clutter creates chaos and when exposed to it regularly, your mind will inevitably begin to reflect the physical space you’re living in.

If you’ve been given new presents over Christmas, especially home décor gifts, consider removing existing pieces to make space for the new. Tidying away unnecessary or surplus items brings an air of peace and tranquillity, which is especially important when battling the January-blues.

Good storage is the key to success when de-cluttering. In well-used spaces, bespoke cabinetry with a combination of both open shelving and space behind closed doors offers the perfect balance to display your valued keepsakes, whilst tucking the less attractive but often necessary items away. Inside, use baskets and boxes with clear labels, so that you can easily find items in the future.

Be inspired by tidying expert and author Marie Kondo in her Netflix show “Tidying Up with Marie Kondo”. Showcasing her KonMari method of organisation, the show offers great insight into a very different way of tidying. The technique essentially consists of gathering all belongings together (one category at a time), acknowledging the usefulness of each item and discarding anything that doesn’t spark joy. It certainly gives food for thought so worth a watch!

Cleanse and organise your wardrobe

There’s something so satisfying about a wardrobe cleanse, especially when you rediscover forgotten favourites and overlooked key pieces. If you find yourself snapping up stunning new pieces in the January sales, set aside some time to do a full clear out to make room for your new outfits. Pack away clothes and accessories that don’t suit the season and don’t cling on to pieces that you’ll never wear. There are plenty of ways to rehome your unwanted clothes, whether you sell them on apps like Depop and Vinted, or donate them to a local charity shop.

If you are feeling really inspired, take your 2022 wardrobe organisation to the next level. Use an app like Stylebook to help plan your outfits, so that you can be completely prepared or, if you need a little more help, organisational masterminds Style Sisters help to detox and arrange your wardrobe, making it more suited and functional for your life.

Organise the every-day items

Be prepared with baskets (they are perfect for stowing away blankets, children’s toys and wires and charges), designate a space or drawer for the odd bits and pieces and organise your food items in the kitchen with beautiful canisters and jars.

Our must-have for every living room is a faux-book style box. Incorporating one into your coffee table styling makes for easily accessible but pretty storage, especially for remotes, matches and candle lighters. Available in a range of designs and sizes, there will always be a style that complements your interior…You can find our range of faux book boxes in our Lifestyle showroom.

Fancy, fresh fragrances

In the lead up to Christmas, we all enjoy the festive aromas of warming cinnamon, cloves and pine, but the New Year calls for fresh, clean scents to make your home feel anew. Luxurious fragrances are vital to achieve a calm interior – even just the ritual of lighting a candle and seeing its gentle glow helps to soothe the mind. Choosing the right scent will help encourage positive feelings throughout and reed diffusers infuse the air with long-lasting, enchanting aromas. With so many featuring incredible designs, they are beautiful addition and truly elevate your interior styling.

We include plenty of candles and diffusers in our projects. A favourite among our talented designers is the Baobab ‘Black Pearls’ Totem diffuser, the fresh and timeless scent of black rose and ginger scent presented in a striking hand-blown glass with a decorative cap that gives the bottle an ornate tribal quality.

Promote wellness with crystals

In the practice of holistic interior design, incorporating crystals into a design scheme not only adds a beautiful aesthetic to a space, but also promotes a flow of good energy and wellness within our homes, which is why we include them in almost every project.

Clear Quartz, known as the master healer, is a striking glass-like crystal that helps to cleanse the mind, remove negativity and promote enlightenment. It will inspire you to do better and dream bigger. The soft sky-blue tones in Celestite make it a beautiful visual addition to any interior, and its healing properties help you to develop your spiritual strength. You’ll find that a feeling of calmness and serenity always seems to find you when around this stone, enhancing mindfulness and focus.

Create a new look with what you already have

Restyling your existing décor can give your home a brand-new look without spending lots of money. Look at your home accessories and reassign them to a different position or even a different room. There isn’t an exact science to this, but it’s about what’s visually appealing. The key to home styling is composition and form. Arrange things together in small groups based on a colour theme, and vary the levels to create interest; books are a great prop to use to add height to an arrangement. Equally, trays are a stylish way to create defined zones, particularly on coffee tables.
